How to Migrate WordPress Website from HTTP to HTTPS (Video Transcription):

Hi, guys, this is Tanya (my niece), and I’m Roel and today we’ll teach you how you can migrate your WordPress website from HTTP to HTTPS. Let’s do it.

Buying and Installing SSL

The first step you need to do is to buy an SSL Certificate from your web hosting company and ask them to install it for you.

In my case, I bought an SSL Certificate from HostGator for only 39 dollars per year which also include a free installation.

Once the SSL is installed on your website, you can check it by adding https:// on your domain. If your browser doesn’t show security warnings and you can still view your website perfectly, then the SSL Certificate is already installed. You may see, however, that your website doesn’t have a secure label on the browser.

That’s why we have this guide, to help you migrate your HTTP WordPress website into HTTPS correctly by just using one WordPress plugin.

Install Really Simple SSL Plugin

So, first, let’s go to your WordPress Dashboard. Then, go to Plugins and click Add New. We’re going to find “Really Simple SSL” plugin. Once you’ve found it, click Install Now and Activate.

Once it’s activated, you’ll see a notification about migrating your site to SSL. Click “Go ahead, activate SSL” button.

Once you do this, you may be required to log in again. It will also show you that the SSL is activated. But, correctly migrating your website doesn’t end here.

Configure 301 Redirection

Now, let’s go to WordPress Settings and click SSL.

You will be redirected to “Really Simple SSL Settings.” From here, click Settings, and click “Enable 301 .htaccess redirect” checkbox. Then, click save.

You are done. Once you visit your website, you should be able to see a secure sign on your browser.

Congratulations, you have just successfully migrated your WordPress website from HTTP to HTTPS.

As a final piece of advice, don’t forget to update your Google Analytics and add your new website properties to Google Search Console. Good luck.
